Places to Visit in Delhi

India Gate: Delhi tour would take you to India Gate, situated at the center of New Delhi. The 42m high monument commemorates the 70,000 Indian soldiers who lost their lives fighting for the British Army during the First World War.
It also bears the names of more than 13,516 British and Indian soldiers killed in the Northwestern Frontier in the Afghan war of 1919. The foundation stone of India Gate was laid by his Royal Highness, the Duke of Connaught in 1921 and was designed by Edwin Lutyens. You can also see the Amar Jawan Jyoti, which is a flame that burns day and night under the arch to remind the nation of soldiers who laid down their lives in the Indo-Pakistan War of December 1971.

Rashtrapati Bhavan: On your Delhi travel you can see the Rashtrapati Bhawan, architecturally impressive building standing at a height. The Bhawan is surrounded by the tended Mughal Gardens, which are a bonanza topped by an amazing assembly of roses in perfect bloom. It is a perfect place for lovers of flowers and beauty; the gardens are opened for the public on every spring. Mughal Gardens are indeed a beautiful place to see in Delhi.

Red Fort: Red Fort is the one of the most magnificent monuments in Delhi. The Mughal Emperor Shah Jehan built it in 1638 A.D.The Fort is enclosed with Diwan-i-am, the hall meant for public audiences; Diwan-i-Khas, where private audiences were granted; Rang Mahal, the water cooled apartment of the royal ladies; the Pearl Mosque, a lovely, ornate dream in white marble. The Red Fort was the last fort built in Delhi and it witnessed the variations of fortune, the splendor and the fall of the Mughals, British rule, and finally the dawn of Indian Independence. Qutab Minar: The construction of this soaring tower began in the 12th century and it was completed in the 13th century. The Qutab Minar attracts many visitors from all across the world. The Minar rises over 230 feet and can be ascended by a circular stairway for a view that is breathtaking. The monument tapers from a 15-meter diameter base to just 2½ meters at the top. The tower has five distinct storeys, each marked by a projecting balcony. The first three storeys are made of red sandstone, the fourth and fifth of marble and sandstone. In 1199,Qutub-ud-din Aibak started work on the minar to celebrate the advent of Muslim dominance in Delhi.

Humayun's Tomb: The tomb is one of the major tourist spots on your tour to Delhi. Humayun's wife, Hamida Begum from 1562-1572, supervised the construction of Humayun's Tomb. The Tomb was built in Persian architectural style. The main chamber of Humayun's Tomb shows some familiarity with the tomb of the Mongol Ilkhanid ruler of Persia, Oljeytu, at Sultaniyya. You can visit the tomb on your Delhi tour; the building is noteworthy for its inlaid tile work, carving embodying both Indian and Persian decorative elements, and its carved stone screens.

Chandni Chowk: Chandni Chowk is an important place to visit on your Delhi tour. This colorful bazaar is located in the main street of Old Delhi and is also called as the moonlit square. The Chandni Chowk has several lanes. The market place also has historical landmarks like- The Sunheri Masjid that stands next to the Kotwali.The Fatehpuri Mosque is located at the west end of Chandni Chowk and the famous Jumma Masjid is also situated nearby.

Old Fort,Delhi Old Fort: The Old Fort was the seat for administration for many emperors. According to a legend the fort marked the site of Indraprastha, the magnificent capital of the Pandavas, though Sher Shah Suri carried out the construction between 1538 to 1545 A. D. The structure of the Old Fort houses a mosque, which has a double storeyed octagonal tower. Recently the Department of Delhi Tourism has started a new light & sound show, which is held every evening. On your travel to Delhi you can visit the Old Fort.
