Mattupetty: Situated at a height of 1700 m, Mattupetty is famous for its highly specialized dairy farm, the Indo-Swiss live stock project. Over 100 varieties of high yielding cattle are reared here. Visitors are allowed into three of the eleven cattle sheds at the farm.

Originally established to protect the Nilgiri tahr (Nilgiri Ibex), the Eravikulam National Park is situated in the Devikulam Taluk of the Idukki District. It was declared as a sanctuary in 1975.
Thekkady (Periyar): On your travel to Munnar you can visit Thekkady, situated at 65 km from Idukki is one of finest wildlife reserves in India. The city is famous for its wildlife reserve. Thekkady Wild life Sanctuary is located in Idukki in the beautiful and picturesque state of Kerala. It lies on the Western Ghats and is approximately 4000-5000 ft above sea level. This bird sanctuary is a peninsula type land of 25 sq. km formed between the various branches of River Periyar. The Periyar River is rich in fish life and is shallow for most of the year. The fauna at this beautiful place includes both resting indigenous birds and water birds. The most notable of the birds here are Malabar grey hornbill, grey jungle fowl, heron, egret, jungle myna, woodpecker, rose winged and blue winged parakeet.
